The Foundation Institute for Eastern Studies based in Warsaw, Forum Polonia and other partners invite you to participate in a 3-day long training course on doing business in the Republic of Ireland. The series of training seminars aims to support the functioning of your company in the receiving country, as well as facilitate contacts with potential business partners and institutions in Poland. The trainings will be conducted by Irish experts as well as the Polish partners of the project. Each session will be devoted to a different issue: from basic legal regulations, to industry secrets and alternative business patterns. The trainings will take on different forms: analyzing case studies, workshops, competency tests. A more detailed programme is provided below.

The Polbusiness project is co-financed by the Department of Public and Cultural Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs within the framework of a competition “Cooperation in the field of public diplomacy 2015”
Programme
The sessions of the training will evolve around the following themes (8):
Day 1
- Basic legal regulations, legal and financial assistance in starting a business (4h)
At the beginning of the seminar the participants will familiarize themselves with the British/Irish law that regulates the basic aspects of running a business. They will learn about the opportunities and obligations that result from the legal requirements. Furthermore, they will be informed about the potential tax advantages as well as legal and financial assistance opportunities they can benefit from. They will also learn where and how to apply for such assistance.
- Business culture in the United Kingdom/Ireland (4h)
The following issues will be discussed during this part of the training:
- the reasons for organising cultural trainings in companies
- characteristics of the country – United Kingdom/Ireland
- the most important aspects of British/Irish culture
- British/Irish business etiquette
Day 2
- Retail and sales (4h)
This part of the training will focus on effective sales strategies, including the following points:
- Professionalism in retail
- Creating the image of a competent consultant
- First contact and sales pitch
- Sales conversation
- Identification – customer personality types
- IT and new technologies (4h)
Information technologies play a very important role in modern businesses, as they are present in virtually every aspect of their functioning. This fact is proved, for instance, by the investments in IT, which often take up more than a half of the investment budget in many enterprises. At the same time, very often they do not bring the expected results. That is why such investments need to be systematized in order to maximize the value of the enterprise. The participants of the training will learn about the concept of IT Governance, which encompasses the following: strategic alignment, value delivery, resource management, performance management and risk management. Thanks to applying IT Governance a business is can use the data it has in the most effective way and maximize the gains that come from them.
Day 3
- Media and culture and alternative business (4h)
The training aims to consolidate and extend the knowledge about the new media, together with presenting the newest trends, innovations and tools of internet communication.
Among others, the following themes will be touched upon during the training:
- Internet portal
- Serach engine and positioning
- Internet commercials
- Social media
- Blogosphere
- Managing internet communication
In the second part of the session the participants will learn:
- How to expand their business in an honest and ethical way.
- How to become a perfect salesperson/networker.
- How to create a dynamic, powerful MLM structure.
- How to make a great global MLM business.
- How to motivate and not manipulate their co-workers.
- International Trade and Cooperation with business institutions in Poland (4h)
The participants taking part in this seminar will obtain complex knowledge and skills pertaining to launching, as well as running sales on new, attractive foreign markets. They will be able to answer the following questions: how to choose the right destinations, build the right strategy, effectively promote and sell products on foreign markets, successfully negotiate and secure trade contracts.
The Project participants will obtain knowledge about the possibilities and benefits from maintaining contact, as well as partnership with business institutions in Poland. The models and examples of launching such cooperation, together with basic, practical information pertaining to effective partnership proceedings will be presented during the training.
The seminar leaders will contribute to the creation of a report covering all the seminar sessions from the programme. This report will then be presented during the Economic Forum in Krynica-Zdrój in September 2015 and the Congress of Polish Entrepreneurs in London in October 2015.

The Minister for Equality, Integration and Human Rights, Mary White, has today announced details of a new migrant media internship programme for local or regional newspapers which is to be funded by the Office of the Minister for Integration.
The new programme will see the Office of the Minister for Integration fund two six month journalism internships for non-Irish national nationals who have preferably lived in Ireland for five or less years. The Minister has written to the editors of all local and regional newspapers seeking submissions, and a deadline has been set for January 12th for joint submissions from prospective candidates and newspapers.
Commenting on the new scheme, Minister White said: “A key component of integration is awareness amongst local communities of the perspectives and issues facing immigrants living in Ireland, particularly those who have recently arrived. I am hopeful that this internship programme I have initiated will give two local or regional newspapers a new opportunity to document issues of immigration and integration in their regular editions, helping communities to understand the challenges and perspectives of migrants.
“A vital aspect of a well-integrated society is fair and responsible media coverage of issues relating to migration and new communities. I am confident this new scheme will help in this regard.”
Applications for participation in the scheme are to be submitted to the Office of the Minister for Integration by January 12th, and it is hoped the internships will commence in January 2011.
1. The purpose of this scheme is to give non-Irish nationals an opportunity to get involved in this area of the media and to increase content in the paper giving the perspective of immigrants. In this way, the wider readership would be exposed to the experience of this new group in Irish society and integration would be enhanced.
2. There will be funding for 2 internships of 6 months (subject to the review referred to at point 7 below) at separate local or regional newspapers.
3. Interns must be persons born outside Ireland (32 Counties) who are legally resident here and who can legally take up the position of intern.
4. Selection will be on the basis of applications submitted jointly by the newspaper and the proposed intern. It is for the paper to source the prospective intern or for that person to make contact with a paper with a view to submitting a joint application.
5. Selection will be by this Office on the basis of the ability of the proposed intern to discharge the role as described in point 6 below and the capacity of the newspaper to support the intern so that they can benefit from the arrangement. There will be a preference for persons who have been in Ireland for 5 years or less though persons who have been here for longer than this are not excluded from applying. Persons, who have (i) resided in Ireland for a considerable number of years such that they would be reasonably regarded as well integrated into Irish society or (ii) already worked in the field of journalism in a professional capacity or to a significant extent, are unlikely to be selected.
6. The internship will be a full time position. The intern will, following appropriate induction, regularly write by-lined articles or reports for publication in the newspaper. These articles or reports may deal with issues relevant to immigrants and integration of immigrants as well as general issues.
7. This Office will bear in full the salary cost of the internship at a rate of €11,440 and associated employer’s PRSI for the six month period. Half of this will be paid to the newspaper at the commencement of the internship. Prior to the conclusion of the third month, this Office will review experience with the internship on the basis of separate written reports from the editor of the newspaper and the intern and material authored by the intern and published in the newspaper. If this Office considers that the arrangement is operating satisfactorily, the remainder of the cost will be paid to the newspaper and the internship will continue for the remainder of the six month period.
8. The intern will be the employee of the newspaper proprietor and not of this Office and the proprietor will be subject to the legal obligations that arise from the employment relationship.
9. The newspaper will acknowledge appropriately adjacent to published articles and reports by the intern the fact that funding was provided by this Office
10. The joint application by the prospective intern and the newspaper should set out how the factors referred to in point 5 above are met. Applications must be received in this Office before 1600 hrs on 12 January 2011 in hard copy. To facilitate processing, they should also be sent by e-mail to jhurley@pobail.ie. Training on the Integration Guide for Immigrant Youth and Parents

Integrating Ireland has developed an Integration Guide for secondary school aged immigrant youth, their parents (from outside the EU) and those who work with them. This guide consists of different sections and includes information and links to resources on education, language, youth work, community and family life as well as discrimination and racism in Ireland.
You are invited to attend this training event on the contents and use of the guide.
This invitation extends to all Integrating Ireland member groups and other organisations that work with or will be working with immigrant groups, particularly young people and parents (e.g. youth organisations).
The aim of this training is to introduce practitioners to the Youth Integration Induction Guide and prepare them to use it effectively. Sessions will be interactive, depending on each group’s interests and will follow this general agenda:
- Background, advantages and objectives of Guide
- Overview of Guide
- How to use resources which help facilitate integration
- How to enable young people/ parents to use the Guide
This training is free of charge. Travel expenses will be reimbursed (public transport only unless justified in cases where not possible) on the production of original receipt.
